Canton Township is located in Western Wayne County, Michigan. Canton is a charter township of Wayne County and was officially created in 1834.

In 2009, Canton was rated the 22nd safest community with a population more than 75,000 in City Crime Rankings (published by CQ Press). This rating is based on 2008 FBI crime data for murder, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary and motor vehicle theft. Canton has approximately 90,000 residents and averaged 19.71 crimes per 1,000 residents, specifically 18.29 property crimes per 1,000 residents and 1.42 violent crimes per 1,000 residents. [1]
